Intertrust and EVIO Partner to Deliver First Fully Standards-based, Secure HbbTV-ready System for Broadcasters and TV Operators
Evio and Intertrust to showcase EVIO eCA at the HbbTV Symposium Rome on October 17th-18th (Intertrust Booth 9)
HbbTV Symposium, Rome – October 17, 2017, Intertrust Technologies Corporation and EVIO Polska today announced that they will demonstrate the world’s first, fully standards-based, secure HbbTV system at the HbbTV symposium in Rome this week. EVIO’s eCA Conditional Access System (CAS) is built on Intertrust’s ExpressPlay™ content monetization platform, and provides a secure software-based CAS with subscriber management, access and rules-based control, PPV, Network PVR and many other features. ExpressPlay provides standards-based content protection engines with Digital Rights Management (DRM) and Conditional Access capabilities. The content protection profile designed for CAS is based on the Marlin DRM open standard.
HbbTV 2.0 is also an open standard that allows adopters to combine traditional IPTV services with new over-the-top (OTT) TV Internet video distribution. HbbTV does not specify a native security technology, and leaves the choice open to adopters. By using ExpressPlay, EVIO provides a fully standards-based HbbTV CAS solution.
“Intertrust and EVIO have delivered a future-proof, open standards based solution for modern video distribution,” said Kenny Huang, general manager for Intertrust ExpressPlay. “Since using proprietary CAS systems defeats the purpose of a standards-based solution, ExpressPlay’s Marlin-centric solution is the best way to build a fully standards-based CAS. Our technology is future-proof, open and secure, and is approved for use by Hollywood.”
Evio’s eCA based on Intertrust’s ExpressPlay is a unique, content protection system for both linear and IPTV. It offers all the functionality of traditional, card-based CA, but without requiring dedicated hardware or high costs. ExpressPlay is also broadly deployed for OTT TV services globally, and is ideally suited for HbbTV systems.
“EVIO is proud to field EVIO eCA, a unique software CAS based on HbbTV and Marlin DRM,” said Przemysław Gnitecki EVIO chief executive officer. “We have worked closely with Intertrust for many years to field Marlin-based video solutions and ExpressPlay is the perfect content protection platform to use in building our HbbTV CAS, which serves today’s multi-screen world in a more secure and cost-effective way than traditional smart card-based CA systems.”
